Golders Green is an area in the London Borough of Barnet in England. A smaller suburban linear settlement, near a farm and public grazing area green of medieval origins, dates to the early 19th century. Its bulk forms a late 19th-century and early 20th-century suburb with a commercial crossroads. Today, Golders Green is a hotspot that has kept a firm grip on its traditional values, while also moving with the times.
Home to a cosmopolitan community, featuring Jewish, Korean and Japanese families and professionals, Golders Green is well connected, too, with great links back to the city.
Did you know? The renowned Hampstead Garden Suburb is actually not in Hampstead – but in Golders Green! The arty-style flats of the suburb, framed by leafy roads, are popular with buyers, although strict planning laws in the area mean alterations to property can be tricky.

Homebuyers are attracted to plentiful outdoor space and charming woodland in the shape of the Hampstead Heath Extension, Golders Hill Park and nearby Hampstead Heath, excellent schools and competitive house prices.

Popular private schools are also plentiful in the area and include St Anthony’s School for Girls, Golders Hill School, Annemount Nursery and Pre-prep and The King Alfred. Highly rated grammar school Henrietta Barnett for girls aged 11 to 18 can also be found in Golders Green.
Residents of Golders Green have easy access to all of London’s top universities including highly rated London Metropolitan University, which offers a broad range of undergraduate BSc and BA courses and the University of the Arts London.
For the younger members of the family, Golders Green and the wider Barnet area is home to a range of baby and toddler classes and playgroups.
Going Out
Golders Green is home to a thriving high street on Golders Green Road which plays host to high street favourites such as Sainsburys, Boots and Starbucks but is known primarily for its smaller and independent retailers and eateries. Locals favourites include the popular Carmelli Bakery, Kosher Deli (which does exactly what it says on the tin!) the Korean supermarket Seoul Plaza and Hower Oriental Food Store.
Nearby Brent Cross is home to the popular, eponymous shopping centre which hosts over 100 retailers including Apple, John Lewis, Zara and SpaceNK to name but a few alongside 25 restaurants and cafés.
When it comes to eating and drinking, local hotspots include Novellino, One Ashbourne, Sarang for an extensive Korean barbecue menu, Sushi Haven and traditional pubs The Old Bull & Bush and historic Spaniards Inn who both have impressive food offerings.
Commuting from Golders Green
Zone 3 Golders Green is home to two underground stations on the Edgware branch of the Northern line: Golders Green and Brent Cross.
Golders Green station is the Northern Line’s first station on the northbound Edgware line located above ground. The station is also home to the Golders Green bus station which offers frequent services to Edgeware (240), Finsbury Park (210), Waterloo (139), Victoria (13) and Edmonton Green (102) amongst others. Golders Green is also a National Express coach stop for services to and from central London.
For drivers, junction 1 of the M1 is a mere 6 minutes’ away at Brent Cross and offers connections to the north.

The Hampstead Heath Extension is a 125-acre woodland complete with stunning wildflower meadows, ponds, sports pitches and wide-open green space. Families will also love the zoo, café, tennis courts, croquet lawn, children’s playground and landscaped gardens at Golders Hill Park and you can wander over to the expansive 800-acre Hampstead Heath for a dip in the famous swimming ponds, a scenic stroll and fantastic views across London.
